Port Philip Bay. - Sandringham, St Kilda, Mornington and Sorrento
Surrounded by beach front cafes, secluded beaches and cliff features, filled with a profusion of wildlife (penguins, dolphins and seals), wetlands and many sites of historical significance (including half submerged warships and submarines), it is easy to overlook as it is so close the heart of Melbourne. Once out on the bay and away from the city bustle, the sea kayaker can escape from it all and discover a new world. The penguin rookery at St. Kilda is a two minute paddle from busy Fitzroy St at dusk.
Bounded by the Mornington Peninsular and Philip Is. with French Is as its "jewel in the crown" this body of water provides one of the best opportunities to come close to nature. Renowned for its wetlands and sensitive ecological features it really is the place where every sea kayaker can silently ..take their memories, photos and NOT leave any footprints..
